The Golden Mirror
I counted the hours. Seven, eight, nine. The light in the study had shifted from the pale grey of dawn to the bruised purple of dusk, and I had not moved. I sat in the chair that belonged to Julian Gable, my hands resting on the armrests, feeling the grain of the wood beneath my fingers.
