The lamp is yours. It has always been yours. The brass is green with age, the shade a tattered thing of yellowed linen. You hold it. The glass globe is warm. It pulses. A faint, rhythmic thud. Like a heart. Or a knock. You are in the Hall. The floor is cold stone. The air tastes of dust and old paper. The walls are lined with shelves. The shelves hold nothing. Or perhaps they hold everything....
