The Faded Quadrant
The stone floor of the deep cellar was cold enough to numb the bones, a damp chill that seeped through my boots and settled into my marrow. I stood in the center of the circular room, the air thick with the scent of wet earth and something older, something that smelled like iron and burnt hair. There was no light here, save for the single, flickering candle I had brought down the spiral stairs....
