The Pale Tale
The frost had taken the roots of the apple trees before the first snow had even thought to descend upon the valley, a creeping white rot that whispered of endings we were not yet ready to name. I sat in the parlor of the old mill, my hands wrapped around a cup of tea that had long since gone cold, feeling the chill seep through the wool of my sleeves and settle deep in the marrow of my bones....
