The wind in the highlands did not blow. It struck. It carried the scent of wet stone and old blood. Elara stood at the edge of the cliff. Her hands were raw. The rope bit into her palms. She looked down into the mist. The mist swallowed the valley floor. It swallowed the river. It swallowed the world below. She was twelve. Her bones were still growing. Her mind was full of maps. Not paper maps....
