The room was small. The air was thick. It smelled of old wool and damp stone. We sat in a circle. Seven of us. The table was glass. It showed the floor beneath. Dust motes danced. They caught the light. The light was pale. It came from a single bulb. It hung from the ceiling. It swung slightly. A pendulum. A heartbeat. My coat was on the chair. It was grey. Wool. Heavy. I had worn it for years....
