The Wistful Petal
The seal was red. Not crimson. Not scarlet. A dull, dried blood color. It sat on the paper like a wound that had refused to close. Arthur Finch did not look at the letter. He looked at his hands. They were stained. Ink, mostly. But the red bled into the whorls of his fingers. He could not wash it out. The workshop smelled of solvent and old wood. It was a sharp, chemical bite in the air....
