Mara stared at the specimen. It was a *Lilium candidum*, white as bone, white as the walls of the laboratory. She held it with tweezers. The stem was thin. Too thin. One breath from her mouth would break it. One wrong movement of her hand would shatter it. She had to be still. She had to be nothing. The air in the facility was cold. It smelled of ozone and dried lavender. The lavender was fake....
