The road was not a road. It was a scar. Elara walked. Her boots were soft leather, worn thin by the miles. The mist clung to the heather. It breathed. She could hear it breathing. A low, wet sound. Like a lung filling with rain. She had come to the border. The old maps called it the Grey Line. The new maps said nothing. The new maps were blank. Behind her, the village of Ashford lay in silence....
