The Golden Cellar
He dreamed of roots. Not the tangled, gnarled things of the forest floor, but smooth, pale things like bones pulled from the earth. They hummed. A low, resonant hum that vibrated in the teeth. Elias woke with the taste of loam on his tongue. The cellar was dark. It was always dark. But today, the shadows seemed to breathe. He was the Archivist. This was a title, not a job.
