The Faded Frequency
The letter was dated the fourteenth of October, 1842. It lay on the oak table in the kitchen, the ink still faintly damp, the paper trembling in the draft that crept under the door. Thomas sat at the table. He did not move. The candle burned low. The flame licked the wick, a small, hungry mouth. My dearest Thomas, the letter began. I write this from the edge of the world. Do not look for me....
