The hall was a cavern of gold and shadow. I stood in the center. The air smelled of beeswax and rot. My father sat on the throne. He did not look at me. He looked through me. The banquet table stretched long. Silver cutlery gleamed. It was a feast. But I was hungry. I was the prisoner. I was the key. The stone walls breathed. I felt them. They were alive. They remembered.
