The Faded Road
The carriage wheels grind against the cobblestones, a sound like teeth chattering in the cold. You are small in the back seat, knees pressed up to your chin. The wool coat you wear is thick, heavy, and brown. It smells of dust and your mother’s lavender sachet, which is now just a faint, fading ghost in the fabric. You are going to the Palace of Parliament. Or rather, you are being taken there....
