The coat was heavy. It hung on the hook. It smelled of wool and dust. And of something else. Something old. Something wrong. Arthur stood before it. He had bought it. Years ago. A gift. From a friend. Now the friend was gone. The coat remained. It had faded. The black was gray. The fabric thinned. Like skin. Like time. Arthur touched the sleeve. The thread unraveled. One strand. Then another....
