The rain does not fall. It strikes. You stand at the end of the corridor. The stone is wet and slick under your boots. You are tired. Your bones ache with a cold that seems to have settled deep into the marrow, a cold that no coat can fully banish. You hold the letter in your left hand. The paper is soft now, worn thin by the heat of your palm and the dampness of the air. It is no longer crisp....
