The rain hit the glass like gravel. I held the door. It was heavy. Iron. Cold. My hand was shaking. Not from cold. From fear. Or maybe from rage. I couldn’t tell. The hall was dark. The torches sputtered. Shadows stretched long and thin. They touched my feet. I stepped inside. The room was small. Stone walls. Damp. The air smelled of wet wool and old blood. Three men sat at a table. No chairs....
