The Faded Masquerade
The sky split open at dawn. It did not tear. It simply stopped being a sky. A wall of grey mist descended from the ridge, thick as wool, smelling of wet iron and old blood. The air grew heavy. Breath came in short, sharp pulls. Elias stood on the ridge. He was old. His hands shook, not from cold, but from the weight of what he knew.
