The server hummed. It was a low, constant B-flat that Gregor Thorne had come to hear in his sleep. He sat in the windowless room on the fourth floor of the Data Retrieval Center, a concrete box buried in the hillside outside Seattle. The air was cold. It smelled of ozone and stale coffee.
