The sky cracked open on a Tuesday. It did not rain. It bled. A thick, iridescent sludge poured from the fissures in the blue, pooling in the cobblestone streets of Oakhaven. The town smelled of ozone and rot. Thomas Bradshaw stood in the square. He held the lantern. It was a small thing. Brass. Tarnished. The glass was clouded with age. Inside, a flame burned.
