The Wistful Cipher
On the second Tuesday of March, Edward Ashworth was fitting a new deadbolt to the back door of the King's Arms public house when a boy arrived on a bicycle with a telegram. The boy had the Pemberton crest on his cap, which was unusual, because the Pembertons did not employ boys with bicycles. Edward tipped his glasses down his nose and read the message twice.
