The House on Chemist's Lane
The house stood at the end of Chemist's Lane, which was not its real name. The real name had been lost, like so many other things in this part of Mississippi, swallowed by time and humidity and the slow decay that claimed everything in the county. But the people in town called it Chemist's Lane, because that was what the man in the house did. He was a chemist. Or a pharmacist. Or something else...
