In exchange, he would pay a "Tithe of Emotion": every month, he would lose the ability to feel one specific human emotion.

Act II: The Gilded Masquerade The wealth followed the desire. Julian became the most sought-after confidant in Europe's courts. He didn't ask for money; he asked for "favors" and "assets" in exchange for granting the impossible. He built a palace of velvet and obsidian, a place where the walls breathed and the mirrors showed not the present, but the most decadent version of the future. He fell in love with Isabella, a girl imprisoned in a neighboring fortress by a father who feared her beauty would distract him from his theology. Julian used his Gaze to break her chains, bringing her into his world of opulent shadows.

Act III: The Emotional Void As the years passed, the Tithe grew greedy. First went the fear, then the guilt, then the joy. Julian became a master of the world but a stranger to himself. He looked at Isabella and saw her love, but he could no longer feel the resonance of it. He was a hollow vessel, a polished diamond with no light inside. He tried to use the Gaze to "fix" his own emptiness, but the mirrors only showed him a monster wearing a gentleman's mask. He realized that by manifesting everyone's desires, he had erased his own capacity to want anything other than the end.

Act IV: The Shattered Mirror The end came during the Winter Solstice ball. Julian stood before the great mirror of the ballroom, surrounded by the elite of Europe, all of whom were now his puppets. He looked at Isabella and realized that she was the only thing in the world he hadn't manipulated. In a final, desperate act of love, he used the last of his power to break the pact, transferring all his wealth and power back to the void in exchange for one single, genuine emotion. As the palace collapsed and the velvet turned to ash, he felt a sudden, crushing wave of grief. He wept, not for his lost empire, but because he could finally feel the pain of losing her.
