The world was a white room. No corners, no shadows, just a seamless expanse of alabaster light that felt like it was pressing against the skin. There were no clocks, but there was a chime—a single, crystalline note that rang every twenty-four hours.

When the chime sounded, the day reset.

I woke up on the floor. I always woke up on the floor. I would spend the day exploring the perimeter, trying to find a seam in the white, or screaming until my throat was raw. Every day, I would find a small, blue cube in the center of the room. Every day, I would move it three inches to the left.

For a thousand cycles, this was my existence. I began to map the white. I discovered that if I walked in a specific spiral, I could hear a voice—a distant, distorted echo of a woman laughing.

"Who are you?" I would scream.

The echo would answer: "You are the variable."

I started to experiment. I tried to kill myself, but the reset was absolute. I would wake up on the floor, the blood gone, the pain a distant memory. I realized that I was not a prisoner in a room, but a piece of data in a simulation.

One day, I stopped moving the cube. I sat perfectly still for the entire cycle. I didn't scream. I didn't explore. I simply observed the silence.

As the chime approached, the white walls began to flicker. For a fraction of a second, I saw them: thousands of other white rooms, each containing a version of me. Some were screaming, some were sleeping, some were dead. We were a library of human suffering, a dataset used to calculate the breaking point of the soul.

"The experiment is concluding," the voice said, no longer an echo, but a command.

The white room began to shrink. The walls closed in, slowly, relentlessly. I didn't fight it. I closed my eyes and embraced the pressure. I realized that the only way to win the game was to stop playing.

As the walls touched my skin, I felt a sudden, violent expansion. The white shattered. I woke up in a cold, metallic pod, surrounded by machines and a team of scientists in sterile suits.

"Subject 12 has achieved consciousness," one of them said, checking a clipboard. "Reset the loop. We need more data."
