The letter continued: "Your 'discovery' of the destructive style is not a breakthrough, Valentin. It is a repetition. You have not surpassed me; you have simply arrived at the same dead end I found decades ago. We are both just children screaming into the dark."

Valentin looked at his orchestra. They were applauding, but the sound felt distant, like it was coming from underwater. He realized that his 'rebellion' was just another movement in a symphony he didn't write.

He dropped his baton. It hit the floor with a small, pathetic click. He walked off the stage and into the night, the music of the Void still ringing in his ears, an eternal, unchanging loop.
