Title: The Geometric Rupture

The basement of the Columbia University physics wing was a labyrinth of humming servers and chalk-stained boards. Dr. Julian Vane did not believe in the "impossibility" of higher dimensions; he believed only in the elegance of the equation. For a decade, he had been working on the "Rupture Formula," a mathematical sequence designed to fold space-time into a non-Euclidean knot.

The night of the experiment, the air in the lab felt thick, as if the atmosphere were turning into gelatin. Julian activated the resonator. There was no explosion, no flash of light. There was only a sound—a single, perfect note that seemed to vibrate in the marrow of his bones.

Then, the first rupture occurred.

A coffee mug on the table didn't break; it simply ceased to be three-dimensional. It became a flat, two-dimensional image of itself, then a one-dimensional line, before vanishing entirely. Julian laughed, a sound of pure, manic triumph. He had done it. He had broken the lock.

But the rupture didn't stop at the mug. It spread like a virus. The lab walls began to peel away, not as paint, but as layers of reality. He saw the city of New York through the gaps—but it was a New York seen from the fourth dimension. He could see the inside of people's lungs, the gold in their teeth, and the secrets hidden in their locked safes, all at once.

The rupture accelerated. The street outside became a Möbius strip. People were being sliced into geometric sections—a man's torso was here, while his legs were three blocks away, yet he continued to walk, his consciousness stretched across the city.

Julian tried to reverse the resonator, but the controls had become a series of impossible shapes that defied human touch. He watched as his own arm began to fold. He saw his hand turn into a fractal, splitting into infinite smaller versions of itself, each one screaming in a different pitch.

He realized the horror of his success: the universe was not designed to be unfolded. The "Rupture" was not a doorway to a new world, but the unraveling of the only one that existed.

As the final fold reached his brain, Julian had one last thought. He wondered if, in some other dimension, there was a version of him that had stayed in bed that morning. Then, the equation reached zero, and the city of New York vanished into a single, infinitesimal point of light.
