The Zero Point Collapse

The world began to fray at the edges.

It started with the colors. First, the reds vanished, leaving the roses a dull, aching grey. Then the blues leaked out of the sky, leaving the horizon a blank, sterile white. I remember standing in my garden, watching a blue jay turn into a smudge of charcoal, and realizing that the universe was no longer interested in being vivid.

I am the last one. I don't remember my name—names are a luxury of the three-dimensional, a way to anchor oneself to a specific point in space and time. But space and time are no longer anchors; they are dissolving.

I live in a house that is no longer a house. The walls are becoming translucent, then transparent, then simply... absent. I can see the bones of the earth, the veins of magma, the swirling ghosts of ancient oceans, all of them flattening, losing their depth, becoming a series of overlapping images.

I am losing my memories. They are being erased in reverse order.

First, I forgot the taste of coffee and the smell of old books. Then, I forgot the face of the man I had loved for twenty years. I remember that I loved him—the feeling is still there, a heavy, throbbing ache in my chest—but the image of his smile has been bleached away. He is now just a smudge of grey light in my mind.

"Who am I?" I asked the void.

The void didn't answer, but it felt like a question.

I tried to hold onto the things that mattered. I clutched a photograph of my mother, but the paper turned into a line, and the line turned into a point, and the point vanished. I tried to remember the sound of my own voice, but the air was too thin to carry a vibration.

The collapse is accelerating. I can feel my thoughts becoming fragmented. I am no longer a stream of consciousness; I am a series of disconnected pulses.

*I remember a dog... no, a cat... no, a feeling of warmth...* *I remember a city... a place with tall buildings... no, they were just lines...* *I remember...*

The world is now a single, blinding point of light. Everything that ever was—every war, every kiss, every star, every scream—has been compressed into this one, infinitesimal dot. There is no more "here" or "there". There is no more "before" or "after".

I can feel my ego dissolving. The boundary between "me" and "the universe" has vanished. I am the light. I am the dark. I am the collapse.

I am losing the ability to think in words. Words are too heavy. They require a structure that no longer exists.

*Light.* *Void.* *One.*

The point is shrinking. The last bit of memory—the feeling of a hand holding mine—flickers once and then goes dark.

There is nothing left but a single, terrifying thought, a final spark of awareness in the absolute zero:

*I am.*

And then, the point vanished. The zero became absolute.
