1925 Edith Marley stood at the corner of Whitechapel Road and Osborn Street at half past six in the morning, waiting for the number 23 bus. She was twenty-two years old, worked as a seamstress in a garment factory on Commercial Road, and had been standing at this corner at half past six every morning for four years. The bus was late.
