The Sovereign of Void

The room was a perfect, seamless cube of matte white. There were no windows, no doors, and no shadows. The light did not come from any visible source; it simply existed, a pervasive, sterile glow that erased the boundary between the floor and the walls.

The man had no name. He had spent what felt like an eternity in the white, convinced that he was an operative in a high-stakes game of psychological warfare. He spent his days constructing elaborate theories about the "Observers" who watched him from behind the walls, imagining a world of espionage and betrayal that justified his isolation.

But the white room had a way of stripping away the unnecessary.

One day, the man stopped talking to the walls. He stopped pacing. He simply sat in the center of the cube and watched his own breath. He realized that the "Observers" were not external entities, but projections of his own need for a witness. He realized that the "mission" was a fiction he had created to avoid the terrifying reality of his own emptiness.

He was not an operative. He was not a prisoner. He was simply a consciousness, stripped of context, floating in a void.

Most would have been driven to madness by such a revelation. They would have screamed until their throats bled, clawing at the seamless walls in a desperate attempt to find a way out. But the man felt a sudden, cold clarity.

If there was nothing outside, then everything inside was his to command.

He began to imagine. Not fantasies of escape or revenge, but the precise, mathematical construction of a new reality. He imagined a single black dot in the center of the white. Then, he imagined a line connecting that dot to another. He began to build a geometry of the mind, a complex architecture of thought that existed independently of any external stimulus.

He created laws of gravity where there was none. He painted colors that didn't exist in the visible spectrum. He built cities of glass and oceans of liquid silver, all within the confines of his own awareness.

When the doctors finally opened the door—a door that had not existed until he decided it should—they found him sitting in the same position as before. To them, he looked like a catatonic shell, a failed experiment in sensory deprivation.

"He's gone," the lead doctor sighed, noting the lack of response in the patient's eyes. "The void finally won."

The man didn't blink. He didn't speak. He simply smiled inwardly, looking at the sprawling, magnificent empire he had built in the silence. He was no longer a patient in a white room; he was the sovereign of a void, and his kingdom was infinite.
