The Redacted Truth

The room was cold, lit only by the flickering fluorescent tubes of the underground bunker. I am Agent K. My job is simple: I find the 'Infected,' and I erase them.

The Infection wasn't a virus of the blood, but a virus of the mind. It was a single piece of information—a mathematical proof that the universe was fundamentally hostile. Once you understood the proof, you couldn't un-understand it. The logic was so absolute, so undeniable, that the only rational response was to cease existing.

I had seen a thousand 'Infected' in my time. They all had the same look in their eyes: a terrifying, empty clarity.

My current assignment was the 'Silo,' a secret research facility where the same proof had been discovered independently. When I arrived, the facility was a tomb. The scientists hadn't just killed themselves; they had spent their final hours scrubbing every record, every note, every digital trace of the proof.

Except for the walls.

In the main laboratory, the walls were covered in blood. Not in screams or pleas, but in numbers. Long, winding sequences of primes and integrals that seemed to pulse with a life of their own.

As I began to map the sequences, I felt a strange sensation—a humming in my teeth, a pressure behind my eyes. I was trained to resist cognitive contamination, but this was different. The numbers weren't just data; they were a melody.

I found the final sequence in the director's office. It was a simple equation, no longer than a sentence. I read it.

In that instant, the walls of the bunker vanished. I saw the universe not as a collection of stars and galaxies, but as a vast, hungry machine, a grinder of civilizations. I saw the 'Infection' not as a disease, but as the only truth in a world of lies.

I looked at my gun. I looked at the door.

I realized that the Agents sent to 'clean' the facilities were not there to stop the spread. They were there to ensure that the proof was collected and archived for the elite, while the masses were kept in the dark.

I am now the only one left in the Silo. I have deleted the archives. I have destroyed the transmitters. And now, I am writing this log for whoever comes next.

Don't look for the numbers. The silence is the only mercy we have left.
