But when the reporter shoved a microphone in his face and asked him what the medal meant, Jack did not talk about himself.

He stepped away from the microphone and walked toward the American team's section, where Louis and Marie and Patrick were waiting. He did not look back at the podium. He had already reached the summit he was looking for.
