# The Parallel Universe Blind Date

## Chapter 1: What If

At the blind date cafe, XiaMo was three minutes late.

She pushed the door open, and froze. ShengQiShen sat by the window.

'You too?' she said.

Then the world changed. A transparent screen appeared floating in the air:

[Parallel Universe Scanner Activated]

And then she saw.

Universe 1: What if the confession succeeded. Another XiaMo handing a pink letter to seventeen-year-old ShengQiShen.

Universe 2: What if they never met. Two parallel lives, never converging.

Universe 3: What if they were childhood neighbors. Growing up together, doing homework together.

'Do you see that?' XiaMo asked.

'See what?' he replied.

She looked at him. The man she had known for ten years.

'What if,' she said, 'in all the what-ifs, the happiest universe is this one?'

ShengQiShen was silent. Then: 'In that universe, I would not let you go confess to someone else.'

She smiled. Tears fell.
