"And if they're still coming?"

Because the Trisolarans are rational. Predictable. Efficient. And the most absurd thing about them is that they think efficiency is the same thing as survival."
He picked a locust from the grass and held it up to the light. It was the size of his thumbnail, brown and iridescent and utterly unconcerned with the fate of civilizations.
"These things have survived ice ages and meteor strikes and the invention of bug spray. Do you know how? Not by being smart. Not by being strong. By being stubborn. By being, in the most literal sense, impossible to get rid of."
He dropped the locust. It crawled away into the grass, tiny and iridescent and alive.
"We're insects," Marcus said. "And we're going to be here long after the Trisolarans have gone home."
Above them, the locusts rose in a cloud, a living storm of wings and legs and survival, climbing into the purple English sky like a prayer written in the language of the absurd.
