The Abbey of Saint Jude sat upon a cliff overlooking the grey Atlantic, a place of silence, prayer, and the slow ticking of a thousand clocks. Brother Thomas had entered the Abbey as a man broken by the world, seeking a peace that the city could not provide.

It was in the depths of the Abbey's forbidden library that he found the Codex of the First Light. The text spoke of a "Primordial Eden," a dimension of pure biological potential that existed before the Fall of Man.

Thomas began to meditate upon the Codex, and slowly, the veil between the Abbey and the Eden began to thin. He did not enter the other world with the hunger of a conqueror or the curiosity of a scientist; he entered it as a pilgrim. He saw the great beasts of the first dawn—creatures of iridescent light and thunderous grace—and he recognized in them a purity that humanity had long since discarded.

He began to evolve, but his evolution was a process of subtraction. He shed his anger, his pride, and his earthly desires. His body became a vessel of translucent white light, and his mind expanded to encompass the suffering of every living thing in both worlds. He became the bridge between the fallen world of men and the pristine world of the First Light.

He spent his days in the garden of the Eden, tending to the wounded creatures and praying for the souls of those in the valley below. He did not seek to lead or to rule; he sought only to serve.

One winter morning, the Abbot found Brother Thomas in the chapel. He was not dead, but he was no longer entirely there. He was suspended in a pillar of blinding white radiance, his face etched with a peace that surpassed all understanding. He had completed his evolution, not by becoming a god of power, but by becoming a saint of empathy.

As the light expanded, filling the chapel and then the entire Abbey, the monks felt a sudden, overwhelming sense of forgiveness. The walls of the Abbey seemed to dissolve, and for one brief, shimmering moment, the grey Atlantic was replaced by the emerald forests of the First Light.

Brother Thomas had vanished, leaving behind only a single white feather and a silence that felt, for the first time in centuries, like home.
