He could see every crack in the ceiling, every smudge on the wall, every imperfection in the air. But as he looked at his shaking hands, he smiled. He remembered the smell of rain. He remembered the face of a girl he had once loved. He was broken, asymmetrical, and completely miserable—and he had never felt more alive. He walked out into the chaotic, messy streets of New York, embracing the beautiful noise of a world that refused to be perfect.
