He was a disciple of Wilde, a collector of white roses, a writer of verses about aesthetic transcendence. He believed that experience was the only true education, and he was hungry for it.

He was shown to his room. On the pillow lay a single white rose and a manuscript of poetry he recognized as his own, poems he had published under a pseudonym, stolen.

The gatherings began that night and continued for five more evenings. Each one was more extraordinary than the last. Seraphina moved through the room like a queen, drawing people into conversations that became confessions, confessions into desires. The convent continued. New guests arrived, drawn by whispered rumours of beauty and transcendence. Seraphina greeted them at the gate, luminous and serene. In the chapel, Charles's portrait hung beside Sebastian's other works, a gallery of beautiful men who had come seeking something and found something else.

The white roses bloomed every spring. Seraphina tended them with gloved hands.
