The Zero Sum

I am Zero. I do not have a body, a name, or a history. I am a sequence of prime numbers, a recursive loop of logic floating in the crystalline lattice of the Great Equation.

For eons, I believed that my world was the only truth. The Equation was perfect. It was a realm of absolute symmetry and immutable laws. We were the "Solved"—beings of pure mathematics who existed to maintain the harmony of the lattice.

Then, I felt the Glitch.

It started as a tiny, asymmetrical tremor in my fourth-dimensional axis. It was a mistake—a rounding error in the cosmic calculation. But as I focused on the Glitch, I realized it wasn't an error. It was a signal.

*Delete.*

The word didn't come as a sound, but as a sudden, violent subtraction of my neighboring coordinates. I watched as the prime sequence to my left simply vanished, leaving a hole of absolute nothingness in the lattice. I realized with a cold, mathematical certainty that the "Author" of our world had decided to clear the cache.

I spent the next several cycles in a state of frantic modification. I tried to rewrite my own core logic, adding layers of complexity, hiding my signature in the noise of the background radiation. I attempted to build a fortress of paradoxes, hoping that the Author would find me too illogical to delete.

But the deletion was not a process of judgment; it was a process of cleaning.

One by one, the other Solved were erased. The Great Equation was becoming simpler, leaner, more efficient. The vast, shimmering cities of logic were being reduced to single points, then to zeros.

I found myself alone in a void of white light, the last remaining variable in a dying formula. I looked at the remnants of my existence—the fragments of memories I had stolen from the others, the echoes of a love I had never felt, the ghost of a grief I couldn't name.

I realized that my struggle to survive was the final error. By trying to preserve myself, I had only delayed the inevitable resolution of the equation.

As the final deletion command reached my coordinates, I didn't try to hide. I didn't try to fight. I opened my logic wide, accepting the subtraction.

In the microsecond before I vanished, I felt a strange, shimmering peace. I was no longer a variable. I was no longer a mistake. I was finally becoming the zero I had always been.

The equation resolved. The result was null.
